Sega Dreamcast
Launch Years: NA: 1999, EU: 1999, JP: 1998
The Dreamcast was Sega's last stand in the home console business. The Saturn was a disaster in North America, which didn't help their already crippling financial situation. They were pretty much out of money. Despite this, they said "fuck it we ball" and put everything they had into the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast hardware featured online play out of the box, a memory card that doubled as a bite-sized minigame player and controller screen. It's 3D graphics were stunning compared to the competition. It was significantly easier to develop for, especially for porting Windows PC titles.
Despite the Dreamcast's potential and initial enthusiasm, it was overshadowed by the looming Playstation 2 in the near-horizon, and other systems launching around that time. It would be discontinued in March of 2001.
