The Gameboy Advance (GBA) was the last in the Gameboy lineage. It features backwards compatibility with all previous Gameboy games, and the later SP models featured back-lit and front-lit screens. The later-released and hard to find Gameboy Micro is a much smaller GBA, with interchangeable faceplates and a nice back-lit screen. However, for whatever reason, the Micro is not backwards compatible with legacy Gameboy titles.
The GBA was a sizeable jump from the Gameboy Color released only a few years earlier. Spec-wise, it's much closer to the SNES than the NES. It even had some extremely limited 3D capablities!
