Nintendo Gameboy Color
Launch Years: NA: 1998, EU: 1998, JP: 1998
The Gameboy Color may look innocent, but it's packing some heat. The CPU was significantly more powerful than even the NES (4.19/8.38 MHz compared to the NES' 1.79/1.66MHz), albeit with a lower screen resolution. The GBC could produce color graphics, which is something that the previous Gameboy could not do. It was backwards compatible with original Gameboy titles, and even allowed for you to change the color palette during the boot screen (hold either A or B, and press different directions on the D-pad). The Gameboy Color is region free, much like the original Gameboy was. Makes sense for a portable system, which has a tendancy to travel to other places.
My biggest complaint with the OG Gameboy was the fuzzy screen, which the Gameboy Color corrects. The screen still isn't backlit, but I don't really have a problem with that.
